Disney Developing Live-Action Cruella de Vil Movie

Disney is executing a bold new strategy: taking its animated classics and crafting live-action spinoff films.

The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the studio is working on a movie centered on 101 Dalmatians villain Cruella de Vil. The film, tentatively titled Cruella, will be written by Aline Brosh McKenna (The Devil Wears Prada) and produced by Andrew Gunn (Sky High, Bedtime Stories).

This film follows previously-announced live-action remakes/spinoffs Maleficent, which will star Angelina Jolie as the Sleeping Beauty villain; and the upcoming Cinderella, starring Downton Abbey's Lily James, Game of Thrones' Richard Madden, and Oscar winner Cate Blanchett.

This will not be the first live-action outing for Cruella de Vil, however, as Glenn Close played the character in 1996's 101 Dalmatians and the 2000 sequel, 102 Dalmatians. Like those films, Close will be involved with Cruella, this time as an executive producer.
