Directors Guild of America Awards 2014 - Winners List

The Directors Guild of America has held its annual awards ceremony honoring the best directorial work in film and television in the past year. The DGA Awards are often seen as a terrific bellwether regarding which film has the best shot at not only taking the Best Director Oscar, but also the Best Picture prize.

As expected, Alfonso Cuarón earned the top prize for Gravity, placing him as the clear Oscar frontrunner. This also has the added effect of improving Gravity's chances of taking Best Picture, as the blockbuster now has both the DGA and the PGA to its credit (although I'm hesitant to put too much weight behind the PGA win, since Gravity tied with 12 Years A Slave, its biggest competition). All in all, it was an interesting night for the awards, as honorees were as varied as Breaking Bad creator Vince Gilligan, and Scandal and Grey's Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes.
