Diet Update

The diet is going great: I feel bloated and constipated, forced to lug around cheese all day, and somehow managed to remain 120 lbs. for the past five days. What the hell am I doing?! I think it's about time I rethink this whole diet thing.

Yesterday, after performing really well with my food selection at a cocktail reception before watching American Splendor with bridge-player extraordinaire Bob at the Lincoln Center (more on this later), I succumbed to the temptation of free popcorn and soda. And I even sprinkled some extra cheddar. Sigh. "Free" is a powerful force. It can break a diet.

Nevertheless, I am still trying to complete this thing for at least a week. It's getting a little silly, I know, but I'm actually having fun figuring out what to eat. I'll probably modify my eating habits a bit more next week, and instead of going on a strict diet, just go for my "five small meals a day and a lot of water routine." Also, now that I am almost convinced that I don't really need to diet in order to get rid of my belly, I will be doing situps regularly. I think that now that I know I can commit myself to something somewhat, I believe I will be able to do it this time around.

Last Wednesday, Alex and Conny invited me to another Board Stiff session at the Gay Center and it was fun. We played the awesome Carcassonne game. Before playing, I had soup at A Salt & Battery:

That's Matt and Jimmy, who reminded me that the fish are not fried in batter but rather batttered then fried. (Of course I couldn't have any because I'm not "allowed" to have any starch. Haha.)

Finally, American Splendor. This is the best film I've seen this year, though really mostly for the story. I've never heard of this Harvey Pekar guy until yesterday, but it seems that I've known him all my life.

So now I can list down the best films I've seen over the past year:

1. American Splendor
2. Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
3. Raising Victor Vargas
4. Finding Nemo
5. Kill Bill Vol.1
6. Lost in Translation - almost certain Academy Award for Bill Murray
7. Whale Rider
8. Pirates of the Caribbean
9. X2: X-men United - for Nightcrawler's opening sequence

Notes: I was extremely disappointed in Cold Mountain, and I still have to watch Big Fish, Shattered Glass and some others.
