Devon Aoki Cast as Katana on 'Arrow'

A Sin City star is headed to Starling City as the mentor of Oliver Queen.

Devon Aoki is joining the cast of the third season of Arrow in the recurring role of Tatsu Yamashiro, the woman best known to comic book readers as Katana. In the show, Katana is "the wife of Oliver’s handler in Hong Kong, and will thus appear in the flashbacks to Oliver’s time with ARGUS." The character will reportedly play a crucial role in Oliver's progression towards becoming The Arrow as we know him today, although it's unknown if we'll actually see her in the present day, or if her role will be confined entirely to flashbacks.

This is a great casting choice, as the role needs a striking on-screen presence for the character to make a mark, and Aoki is still memorable from her time in Sin City, despite the role being small (and also being nearly a decade old). Although it's not known when her character will first make an appearance, I'm already pretty stoked for this, to be honest. Arrow returns for its third season on October 8 at 8:00 PM on The CW.
