Deja Vu, Anybody?
(Here’s the performance show recap from Howard!)
American Idol Season 8, Top 7 Performances, take 2
Tonight, we will be celebrating the Top 6 with the seven performances in the Disco genre. Indeed, Wednesday night, we will be cutting down to the Top 5, losing two of the Idols, one to compensate for last week, and another for this week. After the high of the 'save' last week, we will be hitting the low of the double elimination. But in the meanwhile, we shall see the same group go again tonight to make their bid to be our American Idol.
Disco could be a minefield for one and all. Overwhelmingly, the word is that Adam should score big tonight, but the heightened expectations could lead to a disappointment. The bottom 3 from last week, Matt, Lil and Anoop, just might have their fans working overtime, trying to save them this week. Will Danny's, Kris' and Allison's fans work every bit as hard and save their favorite? And now that the 'save' is off the table, could the shocking elimination follow it up?
Crusty opens up the show with the recap of the 'historic save' used last week, and how the stakes are higher because for two, the dream will end. Dear God, I just saw Vince Neal in the audience. Adam and Anoop
Lil Rounds (866) 436-5701 - I'm Every Woman - Chaka Khan
Lil does look lovely tonight. Wow, I swear the backup singers are off - although a more reliable guess would be Lil was. It was one of her better performances, to tell the truth, but still not great. Good, but not great. She is being tossed under the bus in a major way, and Lil told us she had fun, was not karaoke, and Simon thinks she is leaving.
Kris Allen (866) 436-5702 - She Works Hard For The Money - Donna Summer
Kris looks good in his t--shirt. Kris is going acoustic with it, and it sounds good. Incredibly nice, and the fans are screaming. I don't know what the judges are saying, because I have a National Weather Service announcement. Yikes! Don't take my cable! But again, I thought Kris was on point, and came back to Crusty saying they liked it.
Danny Gokey (866) 436-5703 - September - Earth, Wind & Fire
What was that first scream? Sounds off to me. He is struggling with the upper register. That wasn't that great. But the audience loved it. Paula wants to jump him. Simon is not. I don't get why the judges don't hear the same notes I do with Danny.Excuse me while I yawn.
Allison Iraheta (866) 436-5704 - Hot Stuff - Donna Summer
Allison is rocking it out, with some blues thrown in. She is in great voice, but the arrangement wasn't the best. But the girl can sing, and she is on her game tonight. Crap, Randy and Kara agree with me. So does Paula. That makes me so sad. Simon calls her brilliant. They want her to stick around.
Adam Lambert (866) 436-5705 - If I Can't Have You - Yvonne Elliman
Adam is putting his own spin on it, and is starting out as a power ballad. He suited up for the event. He slows it up and still makes room for the big notes, but brings it back down. Emotionally and vocally expansive and amazing. Judges love it, and Simon called the vocals immaculate. Adam gives a nod to Michael Orland for helping with the arrangement.
Matt Giraud (866) 436-5706 - Stayin' Alive - Bee Gees
Matt is changing it up a bit, and I kinda like his version of the song. Then he hits the falsetto which doesn't sound good to me - but he leaves it behind quickly. Coming off as a JT clone to me in his performance. The end flops a bit for me. Randy, Kara and Paula really liked it, Simon not so big a fan. I tend to be on Simon's side this time out.
Anoop Desai (866) 436-5707 - Dim All The Lights - Donna Summer
Anoop is suited up tonight as well. He is also slowing up the song, at least the beginning. Wow, he is perfect on this song. Damn, until the end. Randy, Kara and Paula love it, and Simon calls it mediocre at best. This time, I am not with Simon. That was some beautiful singing.
Recap - Again, for me, Adam took the night, with a beautiful arrangement and vocal. Kris and Allison were also up there, Kris fro a great arrangement and vocal, and Allison a great vocal. Anoop next for me, with Matt following. That leaves Danny, and the obvious bottom, Lil. Can Danny be a surprise elimination? Or will singing second get Kris? Can the top 5 be all male? The most shocking thing about tonight? They finished on time. Holy Cow!
