David Schwimmer to Produce, Star in ABC Comedy Pilot, 'Irreversible'

A decade after Friends came to an end, star David Schwimmer is looking to return to TV in his first regular broadcast series part since his ten-season role as Ross Geller on the classic NBC sitcom.

Schwimmer will produce and star in Irreversible, an ABC comedy pilot from Peter Tolan and Sony Pictures TV. Schwimmer will also serve as a producer on the series, a deal that also includes a future pilot directing commitment from the network. This will allow Schwimmer to flex the talents he's honed since Friends left the airwaves, as he's gone on to direct countless TV episodes -- including two pilots for NBC, such as the upcoming Growing Up Fisher -- in addition to a pair of feature films (Trust and Run, Fatboy, Run).

Based on the Israeli comedy Bilti Hafich, Irreversible is described as a "partially improvised" series (a la Curb Your Enthusiasm) which centers on Andy (Schwimmer) and Sarah, a self-absorbed couple with a talent for making their own lives a living hell. Bilti Hafich is one of Israel's biggest comedy hits, becoming the No. 1 original comedy on Israeli broadcast TV following its premiere last January.

Irreversible, which will film in New York, will be co-written by Bilti Hafich co-creator Segahl Avin, who is executive producing with Tolan, Michael Wimer and Reshet TV, the Israeli broadcaster behind the original series. Hopefully, Schwimmer can evoke the frazzled genius of Larry David's Curb Your Enthusiasm with Irreversible's emphasis on partial improvisation. Count me among the interested.
