'Harry Potter' + Character Actor David Ryall Dead at 79

British character actor David Ryall -- who you may know better as Elphias Doge in the Harry Potter franchise -- has passed away at the age of 79.

Ryall's death (which sadly occurred on Christmas day) was confirmed by both his daughter and Sherlock writer and actor Mark Gatiss via Twitter.

As his daughter points out, Ryall will be remembered for more than just his part in the film about the boy wizard.

He also had five decades in the television and film industry as well as on the stage, appearing in Around the World in 80 Days and The Elephant Man and boasting a part in Laurence Olivier’s theatre company.
