David Letterman, Conan O'Brien, More Pay Tribute to Joan Rivers (VIDEO)
The death of Joan Rivers has sent shockwaves through the comedy world, as her colleagues and friends are reeling from her loss. News of her death broke not long before the taping cycle began for yesterday's late night talk shows. Thus, hosts were able to address the death of Rivers on the air, in moments that often proved quite moving and poignant. Seriously, break out the hankies, as you'll come to realize just how deeply Rivers was loved, and how badly she'll be missed.
"The force and power of her comedy was overwhelming," said David Letterman, in his tribute. "Joan Rivers, ladies and gentleman. We're sorry she's gone."
Meanwhile, Conan O'Brien reflected on Rivers's time as a Tonight Show guest-host, filling in for Johnny Carson. "Everyone would howl with laughter," O'Brien recalled. "And the next day, they'd talk about it."
Guest Chris Hardwick would add, recalling his recent friendship with the late comic, "She never lost her edge."

Jimmy Kimmel also took the time to honor Rivers on Jimmy Kimmel Live. "Besides being a pioneer for women in comedy -- for everyone in comedy -- Joan was a very lucky person because she loved her job so much. She never wanted to stop, and she didn't have to stop because she was still great at it." He then proceeded to play a clip from one of her six appearances on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and it shows just how sharp and witty she still was, right up til the end.
Lastly, Seth Meyers took the opportunity to praise the immense skill Rivers displayed as a comedy writer. And if anyone would know how difficult that is, it would be Meyers, the former head writer for Saturday Night Live, in addition to his writing duties on Late Night.
Joan really was somethin'. Her wit and brand of humor are exceptionally rare in the comedy world, and she was often among the sharpest comics of her generation. Or any generation, really. She'll truly be missed.
