David Cook - Cookey Report - Kansas City, MO - 08/29/08

(Here's the Cookey Report from StephCook in Kansas City! Steph was one of our cellcasters that night.)

Our seats were in Floor 2 Row 14 (but it was really the 6th row). Chikezie started the night out with a lot of energy and commented on how loud the crowd was. During Chikezie's first song, David Cook's brother Andrew, mom, step dad, and cousin arrived. They were literally 3 rows in front of us. Andrew was really enjoying the concert and even turned around and waved at us when he noticed we were taking his picture. During intermission, I went up to Andrew and told him what a big fan I was and how I won a radio contest that gave me tickets to the show, airline tickets, and hotel room. He gave me a high-five and said that was so cool. He then called over to his mom and cousin to tell them that I had come all the way from Illinois and won a radio contest! He asked if we were enjoying the concert and said that we were going to love the second half and David's set. I asked him how many concerts he had been to and he said KC and St. Louis and that he's going to Tulsa too. He told us how he's singing national anthem with David at the Chiefs home opener and told us we should come. We said that we'd like to, but since we're in Illinois it probably isn't going to happen. I told him that I wanted to meet David and he said that he would be at the buses after the concert. My friend Christine and I asked for a picture and he was nice enough to pose with us. In fact, he insisted we take another one with my camera because he said that he'd made a funny face in the first one (I didn't think it looked funny, but we were happy to have another pic with him)! He was very nice. We then talked to David's mom, Beth, and wanted to get a pic with her. Christine said we needed someone to take the picture, so Kim Caldwell said she could. Christine threw the camera at her and she took the pic for us. We then felt like we had a pic with Kim so we did. As we were exciting the concert, we met Jeff Archuleta and got a picture with him. He wasn't as talkative, but was nice enough.

Once David hit the stage with Hello, it was so loud. He seemed really touched by the response from the crowd. He made a comment about his belt being stolen in Oklahoma City, so people started throwing theirs on stage. He found one that fit and put it on. During Time of My LIfe, Christine whistled at him and I waved and he made eye contact with us and waved back! Everybody in our row was yelling, "OMG he totally waved/looked at you two!" His set went by much too fast! At the end, he said that he was going to expect this type of response every time he comes home.

Several Idols made the comment how loud the crowd was and how it was the biggest crowd they've had. We made our way to the buses and stood right where they come out of. Kristy Lee Cook was the first one out and she spent A LOT of time with fans. We posed for a pic with her and she gave us autographs. Brooke was next and she also spent time with fans giving autographs. Jason was next and he gave autographs as well. Archie followed but he didn't start at our end. He made his way to our end and signed my program. He also shook people's hands, but wouldn't pose for pics (he said that he couldn't). When he first came out, the crowd started shoving. Security threatened to stop letting them come out. David Cook was last. He told our end that he would be back. He was at the other end for awhile and then we heard security telling him that he had to go. I started screaming his name and pushed my program towards him and he signed it. I was able to get video of him, but not my pic taken with him:( He said that he was sorry that he had to go.
