David Cook - Cookey Report - Duluth, GA - 08/18/08

(Here's the Cookey Report from muse08 from Duluth, GA! Yay!)

When I wrote this it was obscenely early, of course I couldn't sleep, I haven't been sleeping well for a week now! I'm constantly sick to my stomach and now my neck is killing me and I have that cotton sound in my ears because

I
WENT
TO
SEE
DAVID
COOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

oh my goodness.... he is so much better in person than on television. He also, has this glow. I know, the stagelights, the stagelights, but I'm not talking about lighting. And I'm not talking about charisma. Although, he is enhanced with both of those. I'm talking about a glow that just comes from him. It's a little unsettling almost.

okay. the run down.
first, I got there after the show started, luckily, our seats weren't hijacked.

Sophie was a maniac through all the singers (like she didn't want to be there, so I was very worried about being able to stay all the way through) But when Brooke White came on, sophie decided that she'd stay for a while. She loves Brooke White.

oh, one tragic detail.
My camera was left in my other car. I had packed my car up for the concert, cameras, etc and shoved them underneath my seat, and forgot to grab it when I took it to the shop...which I have to go by and get this morning....(NO PICTURES!!!!!)

So alas, I have no photography.

BUT my seats were pretty far from the stage, so they wouldn't have been anything like what we can find on the internet, so it's not that big of a deal. I'm just sad I didn't get any shots of us walking in the arena, more of OUR moment vs the singers...you know?

okay, so moving right along....

intermission was brutal, sophie thought the show was over and wanted to leave. She had a mini tantrum
we had to convince her that david cook was coming on and jason castro and david archuleta and she kept saying they went home ...oh my it was brutal.

so then the show started up again and it just DRAGGED until David's set (in my opinion, of course) one, I couldn't wait to see him and two, my daughter was becoming unraveled and I just wanted this to be done.

fast forward to David.

First of all, the opening of his set is very dramatic. I know we've seen the you tubes, but it's larger than life, they did a very good job designing that production right before he got on stage.
hello. He is SUCH a tease. He also slowed the song down just a bit than normal. He took the LONGEST BREAK right before he sang the last hello in the song and just stood there basking in his power. It was such a turn on.... and now I wonder if he is tantric. *blush*

Then, he went back to his little stool and got something that looked like chloroseptic spray or something, it could have been water, or honey and water...who knows... I couldn't see. But he sprayed his throat, so he's either still sick, or having vocal problems. He did sound a little congested, like not as clear...not raspy, but like you do when you're sick....not bad, just not as clear as he has. And this was in speaking only, I did not detect this in his singing.

Okay, so after the spray, he started playing with his pants. Then he said something about after things are washed in the laundry, they don't fit right. And the crowd went insane like wild animals at the zoo when meat is brought in at feeding time. I was a little worried for him.... and he laughed and someone said I love you and he said I love you too and the crowd went insane again and he said something like he's never gotten that response to saying that before.....

then he videoed the room who was clearly insane at that point.

he also said something like it wasn't such a bad life that he had..... it was hard for me to hear him when the screaming was going on.

don't want to miss a thing.
it's no secret I'm an aerosmith fanatic. So I've ALWAYS loved hearing David do Tyler. I think I have to say, after Billie Jean of course, this is my favorite. He really sang the hell out of this song and I don't know if it was just me or maybe delusional again, but I SWEAR he added WAY more upswell money notes to this particular performance. Maybe I was just paying more attention, but I SWEAR every long note, he drew out, slowly and upswelled it. You know, the stuff that slays all of us......well, I was slayed.

hero
again, unbelievable energy
and again, the number of drawn out upswells....also had so much energy. The last "ordinary" he did something different than he normally does, it was a different "riff" of notes. powerhouse, as usual.

by the way, when I noticed the pattern of drawn out more than usual, way more than usual upswell money notes, I had this beaming permagrin plastered on my face. I just thought, I love this man, he's so awesome, I can't believe he delivers like this night after night after night. He is truly an incredible one of a kind performer. hands down, no question, end of discussion.

Billie Jean.
My words will never do this justice. EVER.
I will have to actually WORK on crafting an essay that properly captures the essence of David Cook performing this song live. everything that has been said before doesn't even scratch the surface of the actual reaction you have while you witness this delivery of pure passion.

again, i may be delusional, but I SWEAR he slowed these songs WAY down tonight. SLOWED. it's like he wanted it to last longer or something tonight. I've heard probably 10 cellcasts now and some cities were just BLOWN through. Hello and Billie Jean were DEFINITELY slowed down.

I actually could not breathe in the beginning. I had this tightness right below my windpipe and in my chest that cut off my ability to breathe. I had to focus on breathing.

and every time he did one of those upswells, I just wanted to scream. Instead, I started crying. not sobbing, just tears. I'm sure most of it was a release from the day, but that song .... He is incredible. He truly is a star. A real artist who has been SENT here to touch peoples souls. I am convinced of this. NO one has this sort of relatable talent at such a young age. His experiences have humbled him, but he is truly grateful and it shows. He is NOT running through the motions, he puts his heart and soul into every performance. well, he did last night. it was evident.

he had WAY more upswells than any cellcast I have heard to date. WAY more drawn out notes....way more....I fell over right before the guitar solo. His note killed me.. I had to sit down *every one else was standing by the way* I stood up again when he started singing again.

and that was it. I didn't see the mavid dance, I started leaving with the girls so we didn't have to deal with mania in the parking lot.

I did get a program but that's it! (no photos!!!!)

so.
car wrecks did not prevent me from getting to see David Cook!

I think he has a day off today, don't know if he's staying here, I hope so, he can relax.

august 18th. what a day. what a day indeed.
