David Choi - YouTube Spotlight - 08/24/2010
David Choi was born in Anaheim and grew up in Garden Grove, California. Growing up in a Korean family, he was pressured by his parents to learn an instrument to play for which he was pushed into lessons every week. During much of his childhood, he saw music as a chore his parents wanted him to do and he resented. But while in 6th grade his whole outlook changed on music when he discovered pop and it opened up a whole new world of music to him.
In 2004, Choi was the grand prize winner of David Bowie's Mash-up contest from which David Bowie selected the winner himself. He also won the USA Weekend Magazine's John Lennon Songwriting Contest for teens and appeared in USA Weekend Magazine with Usher.
In 2008, David released a self produced album Only You. He also co-produced a song called This Is Your Life on the album State of Survival, from Interscope group Flipsyde. In 2010, he participated in the We Are The World For Haiti (YouTube Edition) and is currently rated #8 Most Subscribed Muscian on YouTube of All Time.
I like David's voice and his style of music. It's fun but sophisticated and emotional. It reminds me a lot of the music Marie Digby writes and is refreshing and new.
