The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has announced the schedule for next year’s Oscar season, scheduling the telecast a week later than this year's gala: March 2.
The time shift is the byproduct of the 2014 Winter Olympics, as the games last until February 23 - and the Academy knows better than to try and compete with the event.
In addition, the voting window for nominations has also been moved back, occurring 10 days later than this year's voting period, as the new date for voting begins on December 27. This should give an extra boost to films that don’t open until late December, such as the upcoming Grace of Monaco (starring Nicole Kidman) and David O. Russell’s untitled FBI drama, starring Christian Bale and Jennifer Lawrence.
