Danny Gokey: Adam and I disagreed about religion, and I will not record a Christian album

Danny Gokey gave some very interesting answers in his chat with the fans on Eye on Idol this afternoon:

Q: Adam has said that you two agree to disagree on many topics. What are those topics?

Danny Gokey: Religious beliefs, and... I think that was the main topic, but we did it in a very respectful way. It was cool ebcause we would never argue or frustrate each other, we'd just like to hear the other opinion on the conversation. And at the end of the conversation, we'd respectfully disagree and we have a great, strong friendship. It was mostly religion.

Q: How will your religious beliefs influence your music and your show biz life? Will you do a CCM album?
Danny Gokey: I will not do a contemporary Christian album. I think maybe eventually, later in life, once I'm more established in my career. But at this point I will be a Christian who does mainstream music. I want to live by example and not just my words, because I don't want to exclude anybody out my message in music.

Q: A lot of fans are upset over the comments that you and Michael Sarver made on one of Sarver's behind the scene videos. Any comments on this?
Danny Gokey: Yes. I accept gay people, but people have to accept my beliefs. We have to accept their beliefs, but they have to accept my beliefs. We agree to disagree. I don't judge people, but at the same time, if they believe in what they believe, they have to accept me and what I believe. But I accept anybody as they come. That's my character and my personality.

My only problem with Danny's answer about gay people is, aside from going on a tangent with his answer, the Christian religion (not the people who practice it) according to a majority of pastors I've been exposed to -- is inherently unaccepting of homosexuality. A tit for tat "accepting of each other beliefs" does not change the fact that what you believe is wrong.
