Daniel Bruhl Cast as Villain In 'Captain America: Civil War'
Marvel has made the announcement official: Daniel Bruhl, perhaps best known for his Golden Globe/Screen Actors Guild Award-nominated turn opposite Chris Hemsworth in 2013's Rush, is heading to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that made his rush co-star a household name.
Bruhl has been cast as a villain in Captain America: Civil War, the third film in the Captain America film series, due to hit theaters on May 6, 2016. The film will co-star Chris Evans (Captain America), Robert Downey, Jr. (Iron Man), and Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) in a story that will kick off the iconic Civil War arc in the comic books, which divides Captain America and Iron Man -- and the entire Marvel Universe -- over the government's Superhuman Registration Act. It's an epic tale with potential to span multiple films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although details remain understandably scant, at the moment. We do know Joe and Anthony Russo will return to direct, following the success of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
“With Daniel's ability to deliver intense, nuanced performances, we knew we had found yet another great actor to share the screen with some of our biggest heroes,” said Producer Kevin Feige.
So who will Bruhl play? No word on specifics just yet, although I think he'd make a great Baron Zemo or maybe The Taskmaster. However, it's hard to know for sure, since the original Civil War arc didn't have a villain in the traditional sense, if I remember correctly (which I admit I may not, since it's been a while). The story was more about how the heroes were pit against one another, divided along ideological lines. But hey, we're open to speculation, so get to guessing in the comments!
