Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann - Top 14

Okay -- "Dance War" -- the very title itself invokes WTF. And then "Bruno vs. Carrie Ann". WTF?
At any rate, "Dance War: Bruno vs. Carrie Ann" premiered tonight with a casting special introducing the Top 14. Frankly, I'm still perplexed: what exactly are we doing here? How is this "war" going to be fought? And why the singing when it's a dance war? Sigh.
This is how I understand things will happen (god, why is it so complicated): Next week, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba will choose their teams from the 14, but there can only be 6 on each team so 2 will be cut immediately. And then every week the viewers vote on who is the better team and the losing team's mentor choses a dancer/singer to be eliminated. So basically they are cutting 8 people until we are left with a 6-person song and dance group. Hmmm... WTF? Is this going to friggin' work? Wasn't "Fame" and this whole "triple-threat" thing a flop? Sigh.
Anyway, we'll see. The ABC dance franchise wants to attract a younger audience and this is their attempt. Since "Dancing with the Stars" has so much goodwill with me, I'm watching until and if it becomes absolutely excruciating and too ridiculous.
Anyway, all I know is I'm supposed to root for some people, and that would be Chris. Zack is the chosen one, if there was one on this show.
