Dallas - Season 1 Episode 2 - Hedging Your Bets - Recap

The second half of the Dallas premiere was kind of amazing, with more shirtless guys, plenty of double-crosses, and a fun little get together. I think I see the season forming now, building toward something big.

The show opens with Christopher having sex with Rebecca.. I’m certainly not complaining. John Ross and J.R. are having lunch with Marta, and J.R. wants the papers signed for the Southfork contract ASAP. When John Ross makes out with Marta in the parking lot, J.R. looks like he is super super suspicious. I definitely saw a raise of the eyebrows.

Then there’s some nearly naked Jesse Metcalfe / Christopher in his underwear contemplating whether selling the ranch is really the right thing to do. Ann also gets upset when she overhears Bobby talking about postponing his surgery. John Ross goes to see Elena and she shows him the email sent on her wedding day, still sure it was him who wrote it. He actually seems rather convincing and storms off, knowing the only reason he is with Elena is because of that email.

Christopher talks to Bobby begging him to reconsider selling only to help him with the business. Apparently, when you shake on it in Dallas it’s a done deal because Bobby doesn’t seem to budge one bit. John Ross goes to Mitch’s office; he had previously bribed him to keep quiet about the oiling and commands more money, otherwise he’s going to tell everything he knows. Later on, John Ross also catches Christopher “in his bar” and gives him shit about it, of course. Christopher goes for the jugular and mentions his situation with Elena, embarrassing him in his own bar.

Elena sees Sue Ellen, who seems to admire her greatly and lets her freely borrow money for some oil leases. It’s the night for the Cattleman’s Ball! It’s kind of like Gossip Girl, but all centered around money. J.R. walking down the red carpet in his walker was one of the single funniest moments of the episode. Pretty much everyone is shocked to see J.R. back in action, none more so than Bobby. He plays nice, though, and asks John Ross to apologize to his uncle. He even greets Sue Ellen, telling her she’s the prettiest girl there.

John Ross is shocked to learn that his personal relationship with Elena is pretty much over, and their relationship from here on will be strictly professional. J.R. sees Mitch about the contracts, threatening to hold him responsible if the contract does not follow through. John Ross seduces Marta as she is about to leave and tells her he needs $100,000. Well, it was hot and steamy until he threw in that he needed the money. She drugs his drink and takes him over to the bed, where is a camera is recording everything. Gasp!

While Ann mopes about Bobby’s forthcoming surgery, she tells Bobby she thinks the only reason he is selling Southfork is because he has given up on life. John Ross wakes up on the bed, throws up, and Marta gives him the money. Christopher thinks that Elena has come up with something that will solve his methane situation; something tells me their work is going to turn into something more. Rebecca’s brother Tommy visits Rebecca, telling her he’s in with the family because Ann offered him a job on the ranch. He also tells her they have been working on this plan for over two years and to not get too comfortable as Mrs. Ewing. This girl is nothing but trouble. Seriously, who uses Jesse Metcalfe? John Ross meets up with someone and tells him he wants to know who sent Elena this email.

J.R. heads to Mexico where he visits Carlos to talk about the deal with Marta, but to his surprise he knows nothing of this deal. That’s when the REAL Marta comes out. He knows it’s all been a scheme, and the real Marta is an imposter! I loved this episode. So many twists and turns. What did you think?
