Angelina Jolie arrived at Disney's D23 fan convention this weekend to unveil a first look at the upcoming film Maleficent! The film is a live-action take on the animated Disney classic from 1959, Sleeping Beauty, and will focus primarily on the tale of the path that led the sorceress to evil.
Jolie, a major Maleficent fan since her youth, had this to say regarding her upcoming lead role:Since I was a little girl, Maleficent was always my favorite… I was terrified of her, but I was also drawn to her. I wanted to know more about her. She had this elegance and grace, yet she was wonderfully, deliciously cruel. At the Anaheim-based convention, Jolie presented a first teaser trailer for the film depicting an iconic scene from the Disney classic; The scene in which Maleficent first curses Princess Aurora to a death-like sleep that would one day be broken by a kiss from a prince. (Of course, in the animated version, she curses her to death. This live-action version will obviously portray Maleficent in a more sympathetic light.) Maleficent is set to open in July of 2014.
