Cycling - Women's Sprint - London 2012 Olympics - Results

Team GB squared off against Team Australia in the Women's Sprint at the London 2012 Olympics.

Victoria Pendleton of Great Britain, in her final Olympic race, was heavily favored to bring home yet another gold in the velodrome for the home team.  She would have to defeat her arch rival Anna Meares to do it.

Here are your medal results:

In what turned out to be a highly tactical bout, Australian Anna Meares won two straight races in the gold medal ride off to pull out the upset victory.  In the final match up, Meares forced Pendleton to make the first move and then rode her down in the stretch to take a relatively easy victory.  Disappointing for Team GB, but a great ride by the Aussie.

Guo Shang of China defeated Kristina Vogel of Germany in the bronze medal ride off.

Results:

Gold: Anna Meares - Australia

Silver: Victoria Pendleton - Great Britain

Bronze: Guo Shuang - China

Congratulations to all the medal winners!
