Mark Pedowitz, president of The CW, announced early renewals for three of the network's most buzzed-about series: megahit The Vampire Diaries, cult favorite Supernatural and freshman hit Arrow.
“We said last year that one of our goals was to establish building blocks to grow on, and now with our new hit ARROW and fan favorite SUPERNATURAL on Wednesday night, and the continued success of THE VAMPIRE DIARIES on Thursday, we’ve been able to do that,” said Pedowitz. “Not only do ARROW, SUPERNATURAL, and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES perform well on-air, they’re also extremely successful for us both digitally and socially. I’m thrilled to have all three shows returning to our schedule next season.”
The Vampire Diaries continues to be the network's highest-rated series in the target demographics of adults and women 18-34, while also being a top performer both digitally and socially. Meanwhile, Supernatural has seen dramatic increases in its ratings over last season, gaining 15% in total viewership. This is thanks, in large part, to the series being paired with Arrow, the freshman drama that has proven to be one of The CW's biggest success stories this season. The action-drama, based on DC Comics' Green Arrow, scored the highest ratings for a premiere since 2009, and is currently the network's most watched show, averaging 4.3 million viewers each week.
Though former cornerstone hit Gossip Girl has been put out to pasture, The CW doesn't appear to be hurting for reliable programming.
