The CW Picks Up 'Identity' and 'Jane the Virgin'

The CW has picked up two intriguing drama pilots for the 2014-2015 broadcast season!
The most interesting of the two is Jane the Virgin, the tale of a religious young Latina woman who is “accidentally artificially inseminated.”
The pilot is adapted from a successful Venezuelan telenovela, Juana la Virgen. The Venezuelan version follows the 17-year-old girl after the hospital error leaves her impregnated, a circumstance that brings her into contact with the child's biological father, who falls in love with her -- despite being married. Yes, when Venezuelans do soap operas, they do SOAP OPERAS.
Jane the Virgin comes from writer Jennie Snyder Urman, who scripted last year's cancelled shows Emily Owens M.D. and 90210. Ben Silverman, Gary Pearl, and Jorge Granier are onboard as producers.
But that's not the only show to receive a pick-up from The CW.
Identity looks to match Jane the Virgin just for sheer craziness of the premise. The logline is as follows: “When a young woman in need of a transplant learns she is related to a powerful family whose son is her only hope for a donor organ, the CIA approaches her to investigate the family’s involvement in domestic terrorism and to infiltrate their rarefied world. Her loyalty, morality and ethics are tested as she’s forced to slowly build a case against the family who saved her life.”
The project comes from writer Corinne Brinkerhoff (The Good Wife) and executive producers Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci (Star Trek Into Darkness), Heather Kadin and Rob Golenberg & Alon Aranya.
I really hope these two shows can deliver on the insanity of each show's premise. Hell, I'm already anticipating some interesting new shows to review next season.
