Can't get enough CSI? Still mourning the loss of spinoffs CSI: Miami and CSI: New York? Well you're in luck!

CBS is moving forward with a spinoff of CSI that will focus on cyber crime. The currently-untitled series will air a backdoor pilot during the regular season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation this spring. The new spinoff will be scripted by CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker, alongside longtime CSI showrunner Carol Mendelsohn and former CSI: Miami showrunner Ann Donahue. Produced by CBS Studios and Bruckheimer TV, the spinoff centers on Avery Ryan, Special Agent in Charge at the Cyber Crime Division of the FBI in Quantico, VA, who is "tasked with solving major crimes that start in the mind, live online, and play out into the real world. The series is partly inspired by the work of Irish cyberpsychologist Mary Aiken.

Zuiker, Mendelsohn and Donahue are executive producing with Jerry Bruckheimer and Jonathan Littman, while Aiken himself will serve as a producer. Will there be enough to sustain a series, or is the premise too specific to last longer than a handful of seasons? Well, nobody thought Law & Order: SVU would be able to get more than a few seasons out of an all-sex crimes show, yet here we are nearly two decades later.
