Comedian Michael Che to Co-Anchor 'Weekend Update' on 'Saturday Night Live'
Michael Che is going from The Daily Show to Saturday Night Live.
The comedian, who had a brief run as a correspondent for Comedy Central's The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, is heading back to the show for which he used to be a writer. Yet Michael Che is not returning to Saturday Night Live to be a writer. He is returning to be an on-air performer, serving as co-anchor for the show's popular Weekend Update segment.
Che will co-anchor the segment alongside SNL writer Colin Jost. He replaces cast member Cecily Strong, who acted as co-anchor for two seasons, first alongside Seth Meyers and later alongside Jost. However, while Strong will be gone from the anchor's chair, she'll return to being a full-time cast member when the new season premieres. So get stoked, as the 40th season of SNL approaches!
The new season premieres September 27 with host Chris Pratt and musical guest Arianna Grande, which sounds like a hell of a show. As an added bonus, it should be interesting to see how Che does in the role. The dude has serious talent, so I have no doubt he'll be able to deliver in the role, especially since he'll be making history as the show's first black Weekend Update co-anchor. I'm really optimistic of what Che can deliver. Check out some of his comedy embedded in the video below, and let us know what you think of his casting in the comments.
