Seth Meyers will be leaving Saturday Night Live in two weeks in order to focus on his new role as the host of Late Night. Of course, this means Meyers's spot as co-anchor of the popular Weekend Update segment is now vacant. So who will fill the spot?

Saturday Night Live head writer Colin Jost will be getting in front of the camera as the new co-anchor of Weekend Update, alongside Cecily Strong, who was elevated to the co-anchor chair at the beginning of SNL's 39th season.

Jost has been with Saturday Night Live since 2005, writing for seven years before being named head writer in 2012. He's earned numerous accolades throughout his tenure, winning three WGA Awards, in addition to a Peabody. He's also racked up an impressive eight Emmy nominations for his work on the show.

However, while Jost will be new to performing on SNL, this won't be his first time in front of a camera. Jost will be making his film debut this year in Staten Island Summer, a movie he wrote centering on his experiences as a lifeguard during a summer in the New York borough.

This is an awfully high position for a guy just getting his start on the SNL stage as a performer, but Jost is more than familiar with the Saturday Night Live format. He's probably the most qualified guy they could have gotten for the role. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how he does in the role, as the rapid-fire joke delivery is why Weekend Update is frequently my favorite segment on any given SNL.
