Cody Simpson - YouTube Spotlight - 08/08/2010
This weeks spotlight is on Cody Simpson, a thirteen year old pop/R&B singer from Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. Cody's rise to fame began in his bedroom with a cover and video recording of Jason Mraz's hit, "I'm Yours". He also video recorded cover tracks by Justin Timberlake, and his own songs, "One" and "Perfect". He was subsequently discovered shortly after by Grammy-nominated record producer Shawn Campbell.
Since his discovery, he has a debut single featured on iTunes titled, "iYiYi" (feat. Flo Rida). There is also a very catchy tune entitled, "Summertime" that is part of the single release. He is currently on the Camplifted 2010 Tour which began July 5, 2010 and ends August 13th.
Personally, the headline song is way too teeny for me. I feel way out of place listening to it. However, Summertime is catchy and fun. It reminds me of the the feeling I would get from a song like "Boys of Summer" by Don Henley, while still being modern and using melody and beat that is appealing to the kids today.
Can he displace the reigning tween heartthrob, Justin Bieber? Is he more talented? Are you disgusted and upset by the even younger tween singers making their way to stardom? COMMENT BELOW!
