For fans of 90s nostalgia, there's good news and bad news.
The good news is that hit 90s Nickelodeon comedy "Clarissa Explains It All" is getting a sequel.
But don't get your hopes too high at seeing Melissa Joan Hart in multicolored denim jackets once more: the sequel is coming not in the form of a new TV series (a la Girl Meets World), but instead in the form of a new novel titled "Things I Can't Explain."
In the original Nickelodeon series, 15-year-old Clarissa Darling often doled out the facts of life via pithy monologues and witty quips alongside her best friend Sam, who never seemed to learn how to use the front door. The new novel, coming to us almost 19 years after the show aired its last episode, "Clarissa" creator Mitchell Kriegman has teamed with Thomas Dunne Books editor/Macmillan Films head honcho Brendan Deneen to create a book that will follow 23-year-old Clarissa as she pursues a career in journalism and navigates the obstacles of adulthood, such as finding a job in this economy, holding down an apartment without roommates, falling for a guy with an on-again/off-again girlfriend, and dealing with family.
If the premise sounds familiar, it's because it was once the basis for a spin-off series on CBS in 1995 titled "Clarissa Now." A pilot was shot, but the series was never picked up. However, given the buzz behind similar spin-off series of once-popular shows (from the aforementioned Girl Meets World to CW's The Carrie Diaries), it's not beyond the realm of possibility that The CW or ABC Family could adapt this into a series one day. They'd just have to find a new Clarissa...(On second thought, I'm fine with just a novel).
"Things I Can't Explain" is slated for release Fall 2014.
