'Cinderella' Trailer With Cate Blanchett and Lily James Premieres (VIDEO)

Disney's live-action Cinderella remake is due out next year, but the trailer has been released now to get the nostalgia flowing.

The movie stars Downton Abbey's Lily James as the title character, opposite Cate Blanchett's Evil Stepmother and a Prince played by Game of Thrones alum Richard Madden. Judging by the trailer, this particular take on Cinderella seems so much like the 1950 animated original that one wonders why they felt the need to remake it, outside of the obvious novelty of it all. I mean, I guess the mice don't talk in this one, and Helena Bonham Carter isn't exactly the maternal-looking Fairy Godmother of the animated original. And there's a lot more backstory about Cinderella's birth parents, and...okay, I guess I answered my own question.

This appears to be a significant expansion on the original Cinderella, in both story and in aesthetic. If nothing else, James and Blanchett seem like perfect fits for their respective roles, and Carter looks like she's having a lot of fun. Who knows? This could be turn out to be something special.

Cinderella hits theaters on March 13, 2015. You can check out the full trailer below:
