Chris Hemsworth to Announce Oscar Nominations

Nominations for the 86th Annual Academy Awards will be announced next Thursday, and much like last year, the nominations announcement will be a break from tradition.

Chris Hemsworth will announce the Oscar nominations at 8:38 AM ET/5:38 AM PT alongside Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president Cheryl Boone Isaacs. This is the second year in a row in which the nominations will be announced by an actor who's never been nominated, although Seth MacFarlane, who announced last year alongside Emma Stone, became a nominee by the end of the announcements (as a co-writer on Best Original Song nominee "Everybody Needs A Best Friend" from Ted).

Although not a former nominee, Hemsworth is a massive star in his own right, having starred in some of the biggest movies of the last several years, from the Thor movies to box office juggernaut The Avengers. So he's more than qualified to read things. I mean, if nothing else, at least the names will sound pretty. That accent, man.

The 86th Academy Awards will air live Sunday, March 2 on ABC, with host Ellen DeGeneres, and Craig Zadan and Neil Meron returning to produce.
