Chris Golightly Disqualification Fallout: "He was under contract," says company head
USA Today reports that Lawrence Franklin of Dream Projects Entertainment disputes Chris Golightly's claim that he was not subject to an existing recording contract when he auditioned for American Idol last year. He said Golightly had signed a new, two-year recording contract on May 30, 2009.
He claims Dream Projects Entertainment would have given Chris a release so he could perform on the show, but Fox did not give them any release forms to complete. 19 Entertainment however would not have been able to work it out because there appears to be a current recording agreement and that's against the rules.
My take: Unfortunate cluster-f#ck here for Chris Golightly. I don't understand why Dream Projects would approach 19E about the contract. Perhaps they wanted to let 19E know that after Chris appears on Idol (when they release him), he is going back to them. Hmmm, doesn't quite work that way.
