Chris Daughtry Taps Into his Love of Comic Books to Help Charity
Chris Daughtry is helping famine victims in the Horn of Africa with his song "Rescue Me" which appears on his album, Break the Spell.
Daughtry recorded an acoustic version of the song for the DC Comics We Can Be Heroes campaign.
"This location is experiencing, what I’m told, is the worst drought in 60 years," Daughtry said. "People are dying because they have no water and no food, and that’s something that we can fix. The solution is get food there, get the resources there. It becomes a solvable problem."
DC Comics, the home of Superman and Batman, is a natural fit for Daughtry, who has been a comic book fan most of his life.
"I think probably around five I got sucked into Super Friends cartoons, so that was Justice League right out of the gate and then that kind of parlayed into comic books," the singer said.
Daughtry also created an original sketch of Batman for the campaign which will be shown at Comic-Con, the popular annual comic book convention.
"I’m actually pretty proud of it," he said. "They’re gonna take this whole art exhibition and take it around the world for two years, then it’ll go on auction. It’s hundreds of artists that are submitting original artwork to this."
The acoustic version of "Rescue Me" is now available on iTunes.
