Chris Brown is tired of fame.
The R&B singer took to Twitter on Tuesday to announce to the world that he intends to quit music after the release of "X," his upcoming album.
In the series of tweets, Brown says he's "tired of being famous for a mistake" he made when he was 18, referencing his infamous assault in 2009 against then-girlfriend Rihanna. Since the incident, Brown has seen his public and private life sent into a tailspin, as he would go on to face a string of other post-assault altercations and incidents on his rap sheet. In addition, many in the music industry faced criticism for continuing to promote and book Brown in the aftermath of his assault against Rihanna, which took place before the 2009 Grammy Awards.
Don't worry mainstream America. After this X album, it'll probably be my last album.

"X," Brown's sixth studio album, is due for release on Aug. 20, so it remains to be seen if Brown will follow through with his vow to retire, or if he'll instead opt for the Jay Z model of "retirement." Who knows? Fame can be a hell of a drug.
