Chris Brown charged in hit-and-run

The troubles keep piling up for Chris Brown.

The New York Times is reporting that the Los Angeles City Attorney’s Office has filed two misdemeanor charges against the singer in connection with a traffic accident in the San Fernando Valley on May 21. While the incident is relatively minor, the resulting charges may put Brown's probation status in jeopardy.

The incident took place near Toluca Lake, as Brown’s Range Rover collided with an oncoming Mercedes. The aftermath was caught on camera by TMZ, which only escalated the incident. The driver alleges Brown left the scene without showing her a valid license and after providing her false insurance information.

Frank Mateljan, a spokesman for the city attorney, stated Brown has been charged not only with the hit-and-run but also driving without a valid license. Each charge carries a maximum of six months in jail. An arraignment has been scheduled for July 15.

Brown took to Twitter to refute the charges:

It remains unclear whether these charges will affect Brown's probation status, to which he was sentenced after pleading guilty to assaulting his then-girlfriend, Rihanna, in 2009.
