Chloe Jasmine sings 'Fame' on The X Factor UK 2014 (VIDEO)
Chloe Jasmine sang 'Fame' on The X Factor UK 2014 Live Show 2 on October 18, 2014.
Pre-performance: Cheryl feels she and Chloe have shut up the press with her performance last week, but feel it's time to take it back to basics this week. Chloe says that different singers bring different things to The X Factor, and that not everyone can try to do the same sorts of songs (she uses an analogy about food being brought to the party that probably sounds better coming out of her lilting accent than out of my confused fingers). She'll be singing "Fame", from the movie of the same name, and Chloe insists it's being done in a way they've never heard it done before.
Nick's Thoughts: I liked Chloe better last week, but that's not to say I didn't enjoy this. It certainly was a different take on the song, with a bluesy, chanteuse vibe that suits her well. What I love about Chloe is her obstinate refusal to compromise, and while I imagine that's partially what makes her controversial, it's also one of her biggest strengths. We know what we'll get from Chloe, and we know there's no one else in the competition delivering something similar. And that can take an act a long way in a competition like this.
Judges: Louis calls Chloe a class act, and admits that while she may not be everyone's cup of tea, she's his cup of tea. Mel B, however, feels Cheryl did her a disservice. She says Chloe is more comfortable in her jazzy zone, yet this song choice was neither/nor. Simon agrees, saying he thought the vocal was going to go somewhere, but it just never did. Simon likes Chloe a lot because she's "bonkers", but fears she may be in trouble after that. Cheryl couldn't disagree more, saying she thought Chloe did a great job. She notes that they have to fit into themes, and that it can be hard finding an 80s song in Chloe's style (which is kind of a cop out. Everybody has to fit into themes, Cheryl).
