So unless you have been living under or rock (or are just not very PR/ad savvy), you haven't heard of Chipotle's uberly successful Scarecrow marketing campaign, in which the food chain promotes their local and sustainable food process.
Chipotle signed a deal with Frank Ocean to record the song "Pure Imagination" as a part of an ad for the campaign. Ocean was then shown an incomplete version of the advertisement, which did not have any Chipotle signage.
Even though it is said he was informed that the song would be for an ad for Chipotle, he pulled out because he though the ad was just for "responsible farming" and no Chipotle reference or logo would be included. A letter form Ocean's legal team reads "Chipotle told Frank that was an intentional element of the campaign. Frank was also promised that he’d have the right to approve the master and all advertising."
Chipotle denies the terms of the deal and is suing Ocean for the $212,500 they paid him to begin with. If you haven't viewed the ad, check it out below - as well as the final version of "Pure Imagination," which was recorded by Fiona Apple.
