'Chelsea Lately' Will End In August

After her manager announced she would be leaving the E! Network, and with rumors circling that Netflix has shown interest in giving her a new show of her own, Chelsea Handler has now confirmed the end of her late night talk show, Chelsea Lately.

E! has announced that Chelsea Lately will conclude on August 26, ending its run on the network after seven years.

"We are very proud of Chelsea Lately’s long-running success and the unique space that the series carved out in late night television," said E! President Suzanne Kolb in the official press release. "Chelsea brought a distinct voice to late night with her acerbic wit and fearless commentary and we look forward to providing fans with a memorable send-off that lives up to that tradition. Most of all, we are grateful to the Chelsea Lately team for making this show so special for seven years."

Chelsea Lately will come to an end with a "month-long celebration of special episodes and surprise guests leading up to the live series finale."

"I myself am more surprised than anyone that I was able to hold down a job for seven years, and it was a fantastic seven years," Handler stated in the release. "I will always look back at my time on E! as most people look back at their time in college. I’m glad I went."

Chelsea Lately has always been a unique case among late night talk shows, adopting a more topical, panel-based, discussion-oriented format than most shows of its kind. In this sense, it's been an interesting watch, even when subjects or guests weren't always all that great. For sheer variety's sake, Chelsea Lately will be missed. However, as the general late night landscape changes, with Stephen Colbert taking over for David Letterman and Larry Wilmore taking over for Colbert, things are already changing in ways both big and small.
