Charlie Cox Cast as Marvel's 'Daredevil' for Netflix
Netflix is moving forward with Marvel's Daredevil, going with a Boardwalk Empire alum for the lead role of blind lawyer-turned-vigilante Matt Murdock.
Charlie Cox has been cast in the lead for the 13-episode Netflix series, which is scheduled to begin filming in New York City this summer for premiere in 2015. It is one of four live-action Marvel series commissioned by the streaming video on-demand service.
The casting is a huge coup for Cox, who's had a few tough breaks since leaving Boardwalk Empire in 2012 after two seasons on the HBO drama. Cox starred in two recent CBS pilots that both failed to get picked up by the network, leaving the talented actor with seismic amounts of nothing to do.
Well, until now.
Honestly, this is some great casting, as Cox has that "regular guy" sensibility that the Matt Murdock character needs (hell, it's a trait that a lot of superhero vigilantes need in order to seem relatable and believable, at least in my opinion). Of course, it also helps that he's exceedingly talented, as I always found Cox more than a bit underrated. No, seriously,
