CeeLo Green Deletes Twitter Account After Rape Comments

CeeLo Green had once been among the most active celebrities on social media. But now? Not so much: CeeLo has deleted his Twitter account after catching hell over some insensitive, baffling comments about rape.

It all started after CeeLo posted a series of tweets relating to a court case in which he pleaded no contest on charges of slipping a woman ecstasy at a sushi restaurant during a dinner date in July 2012. CeeLo, who was sentenced to three years probation and 360 hours of community service, had an accompanying rape charge dropped due to insufficient evidence, as the woman allegedly could not recall what happened due to the drugging; however, CeeLo's lawyers insisted their client and the defendant had consensual sex that evening. Angry with the criminal justice system, CeeLo took to Twitter to voice his frustration.

In a series of tweets he would later delete, CeeLo reportedly wrote, "People who have really been raped REMEMBER!!!" He then followed this up by writing, "If someone is passed out they're not even WITH you consciously! so WITH Implies consent."

Realizing he was basically implying that you can't rape someone as long as they're conscious, CeeLo went back to clarify: "Let me 1st praise god for exoneration fairness & freedom! Secondly I sincerely apologize for my comments being taken so far out of context."

He then added: "I only intended on a healthy exchange to help heal those who love me from the pain I had already caused from this. Please forgive me as it was your support that got me thru this to begin with. I'd never condone the harm of any women. Thank you."

However, by then, the damage was already done, and CeeLo deleted his Twitter account. And so one more celebrity social media account goes gentle into that good night.

Yeah, no loss.
