CBS Sports Cuts Ties With Rihanna After Angry Tweet
CBS Sports is cutting ties with Rihanna after the singer unleashed an angry tweet, bashing the network for its decision to remove her rendition of Jay Z's 'Run This Town' from last week’s broadcast.
“Beginning this Thursday, we will be moving in a different direction with some elements of our Thursday Night Football open,” said Jen Sabatelle, the Senior VP of Communications at CBS, in an official statement. “We will be using our newly created Thursday Night Football theme music to open our game broadcast.”
Rihanna had been scheduled to appear in the Thursday Night Football intro every week of the regular season, but CBS opted not to move forward with this version of its intro, choosing instead to take on a more serious tone before the Ravens-Steelers broadcast in order to address the Ray Rice domestic violence controversy. In short, a pop song wouldn't have fit the tone of the broadcast, nor would the comedy sketch they initially had planned for the pre-show. So both were scrapped.
Yet it's hard to imagine that, at some level, Rihanna's critical tweet didn't have something to do with the decision to remove her from the intro, since she all but told the network to f*** off.
