We reported earlier that it was in the works, now CBS has officially ordered a pilot for a How I Met You Mother spin-off, aptly titled - How I Met Your Dad.

The network ordered the pilot on Friday. CBS is calling the show a “kindred spirit” of the original series, as this one tells the story of a relationship from a female point of view. They also note that HIMYD will be a brand-new story with new characters.

Contrary to the previous report, the new characters would not be introduced in the How I Met Your Mother series finale.

How I Met Your Mother's Emily Spivey, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays will write and executive-produce the potential series.
