CBS Cancels 'We Are Men', '2 Broke Girls' Gets New Time Slot, 'Mike & Molly' Returning Early

We Are Men has become the second series of the 2013-2014 broadcast season to be cancelled, following the cancellation of ABC's Lucky 7.

Effective immediately, We Are Men has been pulled from its Monday schedule as part of an overhaul of the night, which has gone from one of the network's key strengths in past years to one of its biggest weaknesses in this new season. The comedy series, starring Tony Shalhoub, Jerry O'Connell and Kal Penn, was pretty much a bomb from the word "go," drawing only 5.4 million viewers for a 1.8 key demo rating this past week, a paltry number for a Monday night comedy on the network. For the next two weeks, CBS will air reruns of The Big Bang Theory on Mondays at 9:00, which is expected to give a bump to the middling Mom.

Naturally, the biggest effect of the move is that Mike & Molly will now be returning early. The series, which had been bumped to midseason for its fourth season, is now being counted on to support Mom by providing a lead-in at 9:00 PM.

Another huge effect of canceling We Are Men is that 2 Broke Girls, which has struggled in its third season, will now move up to the 8:30 PM time slot, where the network hopes it will receive a bump from a How I Met Your Mother lead-in. One of the network's more reliable standalone successes, 2 Broke Girls has fallen to a dismal 7.27 million viewers and a 2.3 rating among adults 18-49, numbers which jeopardize the longevity of a comedy that already has a lucrative syndication deal in place. The time slot change for 2 Broke Girls will be put into effect with next Monday's episode (October 14).
