The Carrie Diaries - Recap: A Kegger at Carrie's

The Carrie Diaries returned tonight, and while we didn’t celebrate New Year’s Eve with the Bradshaw bunch, Dorrit treated us to the ultimate eager.

Episode 9 of Season 2 of The Carrie Diaries, “Under Pressure,” centered on one wild house party thrown by none other than Dorrit Bradshaw (Stefania Owen). Inspire by Donna (Chloe Bridges) to lure her latest crush into falling for her, Dorrit was unfortunately thrown for a loop when the ultimate buzzkill arrived unexpectedly to attempt to shut down the event. No, I’m not referring to you, Ms. Meade, neighbor to the Bradshaws. Carrie (Annasophia Robb) was in town! Speaking of someone heading home to Castlebury, Sebastian (Austin Butler) flew back for his first visit since leaving for Laguna, yet the pressure of a long distance relationship began to take its toll on Bradshaw. While the Bradshaw girls held the kegger to end all keggers, Tom (Matt Letscher) helped Harlan (Scott Cohen) and Larissa (Freema Agyeman) throw together a prenuptial agreement. Finally, with the goal of Harvard successful achieved, Mouse (Ellen Wong) wasted no time starting on a new dream. Mouse… Beer Pong Champion of Earth. Here is the Recap and Review of Season 2 Episode 9 of The Carrie Diaries, “Under Pressure”!

Mouse had been accepted into Harvard. Donna had kissed all the boys her heart desired. Carrie couldn’t even scrounge together a couple of quarters to call Sebastian across the country. Things were not looking good for most of the ladies of Castlebury. Dorrit Bradshaw, on the other hand, was on the prowl for a new scruffy dude to seduce. Nick screamed “stoner” from the get-go, so the intrigue alone was enough to prompt Donna to help her young protege out. Boredom will do funny things to a perfectly braided head, it seems, and before we knew it, Donna had convinced Dorrit to entertain the entire town. With Tom heading into New York on an extremely secret new case, the Bradshaw girls would have the house to themselves for the weekend. Suddenly, Carrie’s lame movie date with Mouse was trumped by the prospect of having Sebastian fly in spur of the moment. Dorrit, meanwhile, had the perfect venue to prove her potential to her new love interest, Nick.

Carrie had been stressing about the concept of a long distance relationship since allowing Larissa, her mentor in life and love, to infiltrate her curly little head. First the calls dwindle. Next, the visits become sparse. Then, poof! The relationship is over. Of course, the worst-case scenario of all would be if, say, Sebastian decided to move back to Connecticut for Carrie. With all of that pressure, Kyddshaw would be doooomed... Surprise! Sebastian showed up after leading Carrie to believe that he couldn’t make it home that weekend, and, much to Bradshaw’s dismay, he never planned on leaving again. Well, that was quick. Kydd didn’t last a single episode over in Cali! I was about to make a joke about LC and Kristin from Laguna Beach, but I suddenly realized that they weren’t even fetuses yet. Were they even thoughts? I’m getting ahead of myself.

Prior to the big reveal of Kydd’s true plan, Carrie and Sebastian proceeded to “catch up.” You know, the kind of catch-up that requires stripping. That is, until the ruckus of Dorrit’s booming party downstairs tipped Carrie off to the youngest Bradshaw’s insane plan to thwart the watchful eye of their neighbor, Ms. Meade, with a discreet get-together. Thus, shenanigans and debauchery came to ensue! My favorite moment of Episode 9 might have been watching Carrie stare in defeated and depressed awe as jocks did keg stands and peed in vases. Luckily for Carrie, however, the party came to inevitably serve as the perfect distraction. Sebastian, thinking that he’d cheer up his girlfriend with a bit of awesome news, revealed his intentions to drag their weekend together into forever territory.

At this point, I’m convinced that Chloe Bridges should attempt to weasel her way into some sort of DC Comics TV show or film. Arrow? The new Man of Steel sequel featuring Batman? Donna is Catwoman in the vein of Ann Hathaway’s spin on the jewel thief in The Dark Knight Rises. I digress. Donna and Mouse have great chemistry together! Nerd and bimbo unite! The two spent the evening enjoying their mutual love for beer pong. That is, until Donna caught wind of a bit of a change of plans on Dorrit’s part. Nick, the stoner Dorrit had taken a liking to, brought a friend to the shindig that was clearly more Dorrit’s cup of tea at heart. Then again, he runs track.
Lame.

As it seems to go with most of those who take a liking to Dorrit, Scott appreciated her blunt honesty, and it seem Dorrit began to develop a mutual interest in this surprising newcomer. Of course, once Donna intervened to remind Dorrit of her actual target, the bad boy who’d brought the pot brownies, Bradshaw snapped out of it. Speaking of those potent pot brownies, one of the best scenes of Episode 9 had to be when Ms. Meade crashed the party intent on snuffing it out. It was none other than Scott who managed to talk her down from her state of panic, claiming that the good and decent Bradshaw girls had sadly succumbed to peer pressure. Meade, not a stranger to the cruelty of kids, unknowingly recalled her own tragic (and hilarious) experience of getting ditched on prom night, only to find herself dancing with her father in her living room. Well, after writing that out, it just seems kind of sad, but I assure you, it was funny! She mistakenly ate a pot brownie, okay? She was subsequently out of her mind and down for the count. There was no way Tom would be finding out about Dorrit’s rager.

Tom, meanwhile, spent the entirety of Episode 9 negotiating a ridiculous prenuptial agreement for Larissa and Harlan, the newly engaged sex fiends! It seemed like the situation was all fun and games until Larissa adamantly refused to move in with her future husband. Both Tom and Harlan were completely shocked by the seemingly ridiculous demand, as most married couples tend to shack up. Eventually, however, Larissa confessed her true fears. In sharing a home, one risks losing a sense of individuality that comes along with having your own space. Larissa, who prides herself on her free spirit and sense of adventure, refused to give what makes her special up for a man. Harlan, who loves Larissa for just that, promised that this would not come to be the case. Instead of forcing his fiancé to move in, Harlan, with the help of some advice from Tom, agreed to buy Larissa her own apartment attached to his own. Thus, everybody came out a winner! That is, except Tom. Tom was forced to spend the night in the suite across the hall without earplugs. You do the math. Harlan + Larissa =…

While Ms. Meade turned out to be a breath of fresh air this week, Sebastian’s awful mother also crashed Dorrit’s bash, if only to further torture her son. As it turned out, Sebastian really hadn’t left simply to be with Carrie. After another depressing bout with his father over his old man’s latest floozy fling, Sebastian had run away from home. His mother, refusing to allow him to ruin her own home life with her new boy-toy husband, couldn’t care less about her relationship with her son either. Later, Carrie and Sebastian shared a quiet moment on the swings out back. Carrie admitted to being relieved that she wasn’t the sole reason for Kydd moving back to Castlebury. Sebastian, in turn, admitted to feeling embarrassed regarding the true circumstances of his trip back east.

Dorrit’s party was put to an abrupt end thanks to Sebastian, who very cleverly faked an impending police raid. Most of the dozens of party guests scurried like roaches out of any available exit, leaving the destruction of the Bradshaw home in their wake. In the end, Dorrit managed to bag her initial new love interest, the stoner. Donna and Mouse, meanwhile, woke up the next morning on top of each other. Eh, it wasn’t any bother to either of them. The two shared a mutual appreciation for a decent snuggle. They’re hard to come by. While Mouse and Donna shook off the night of debauchery, Dorrit wasn’t at all pleased to wake the next morning only to discover that her crush was taken the entire time. The boy hurried off to his girlfriend. I’ll bet anything that Scott, the runner, will return, Carriers!

Larissa’s new living arrangement gave Sebastian the perfect opportunity to begin growing some roots in Manhattan. I, for one, was happy that The Carrie Diaries refused to give up Larissa’s loft as a set! Sebastian should prove to be the perfect person to sublet her space, giving Carrie just enough freedom to enjoy the return of The Kydd without feeling like a keg about to explode under pressure. That had already happened the night before, literally.

What did you think of The Carrie Diaries Season 2 Episode 9, “Under Pressure”? Will Dorrit and Scott reunite? Does Donna have great on-screen chemistry with everybody? Are you happy that Sebastian is back home? Will Larissa and Harlan actually make it down the aisle?
