The Carrie Diaries - Recap: Au Revoir, Adam Weaver! See You Never.

While Carrie hit up the annual Paris Party to deal with petty gossip on tonight's episode of The Carrie Diaries, one of her Castlebury buddies nearly lost their life! Good thing nobody thought to beep Mouse because she was too busy flashing the basketball team.

Episode 7 of Season 2 of The Carrie Diaries, “I Heard a Rumor,” saw the fallout of Carrie’s (Annasophia Robb) decision to leave Adam Weaver (Chris Wood) in the dust like last week’s old tabloids. Unfortunately for Bradshaw, a playwright scorned in NYC meant the Castlebury intern would come to face the wrath of malicious gossip. Meanwhile, Bennet (Jake Robinson) was fed up with Andy Warhol’s lack of appreciation. I don’t think I need to add anything else there. Luckily, Samantha (Lindsey Gort) and Walt (Brendan Dooling) were there to help their friends set the record straight. As the events in Manhattan transpired, Mags (Katie Findlay) faced a dire complication in her unplanned pregnancy, and Mouse (Ellen Wong) got willingly risqué at the diner. Guess which one Sebastian (Austin Butler) helped. Here is the Recap and Review of Season 2 Episode 7 of The Carrie Diaries, “I Heard a Rumor”!

Episode 7 began with Carrie Bradshaw indulging in a little harmless Page Six gossip. It’s always fun to read awful things about everyone else, but a line dubbing Bradshaw as “a diminutive suburban poser” straight from Weaver’s lying lips sent Carrie into a tizzy at Interview. Luckily, Bennet and Larissa (Freema Agyeman) were around to attempt to alleviate Carrie’s stress. Free beepers for everyone! I love when this show mocks the future aka our present. All that talk about beepers chaining them to Andy Warhol like dogs certainly made me feel like a complete fool for daring to own an actual smart phone. Before long, Tristan Cassidy over at Page Six was digging for information regarding this awful shrew who’d dared to get dumped by Weaver. I mean, we were privy tot he fact that Bradshaw had, indeed, broken things off with him. How could Carrie Bradshaw, intern extraordinaire, trump the hottest young writer in town? Funny enough, Samantha had the perfect connection to weasel Bradshaw, along with Walt and Bennet, into the annual Paris Party. Basically, it’s a socialite a event where the fee paid to enter goes towards a grand prize of a spontaneous trip to France. Samantha knew a busboy! Who has the kind of schedule that allows them to drop everything, hop into a limo, and head to Paris?

While Carrie contemplated confronting Tristan at this large event, Mouse and West (RJ Brown) struggled to decide between stale orders at the diner. Realizing how interminably boring they’d become, Mouse refused to allow fatty foods and awful homework to define their relationship any longer. After the day's extra curricular events were through, Mouse would see to it that their love life found some spice. Literally, Mouse kicked off the couple’s attempts at heating things up with tacos. Well, as someone who inhales tacos, I appreciated Mouse’s first step. The second, however, was a totally ballsy move I never expected Carrie’s bestie to make. West was left a secret surprise in his backpack, but a quick exchange of play notes in the locker room before practice eventually found Mouse’s NSFW Polaroid on the floor. Before we knew it, the entire basketball team, along with Donna LaDonna (Chloe Bridges), was attempting to deduce who the owner of the “perky” boobs was. I enjoyed the fact that the writers had the first player to swipe up the picture say “BOOBS!” out loud knowing that they couldn’t actually show us anything to clue us in. Jocks don’t mince words.

Meanwhile, Episode 7 continued Maggie’s tragic dramatic arc of Season 2 with Sebastian Kydd by her side. After a little taunting from Donna, we became privy to the fact that Kydd had been allowing fake rumors to swirl surrounding his brand new "relationship" with Maggie in order to protect her respect. Maggie, in truth, subsequently found herself outside of an abortion clinic and on the brink of tears. By the time she explained to Sebastian that her biggest dream had always been to become a mother, she was sobbing her eyes out. It’s one thing for Maggie to be searching for a future for herself. It was another to watch her go through the motions of, in her mind, actively destroying the only shot of dream she ever had. Sebastian, correctly intervening, refused to let Maggie make any rash decisions, and the pair skipped her appointment at the clinic.

After sneaking their way into the exclusive Paris Party, Carrie and her crew separated with cocktail trays in hand. While Walt and Bennet ran straight into Larissa, who mentioned the fact that she’d never waste an important ticket to an event such as that one on the likes of boring Bennet, that guy she always sees, Bradshaw bumped into Weaver. At first, I thought things were going to work out differently than they actually did. I was fairly certain that this would be some sort of a misunderstanding and that Weaver had actually been talking about his incredibly awful other ex. Nope, he initially came off as very friendly and happy to see Carrie, but Bradshaw, not one to let something like this slide, refused to let him off the hook. Before long, she was confronting him head on, and Weaver proved to be much more of a d-bag than we’d initially thought. He lied for the good press! According to him, Carrie was lucky that he didn’t give her name. Carrie Bradshaw didn’t feel lucky. Carrie Bradshaw felt pissssed.

Walt was initially at odds with Samantha regarding her plan to help Bennet whip up some recognition, but Larissa’s mistreatment of her fellow employee changed his mind. Walt played the role of a fantastic peacock, pimping out his boyfriend from everyone to this Tristan Cassidy to other big names in the world of NYC journalism. Before long, Bennet was collecting business cards left and right, and even Larissa was beginning to get nervous regarding the concept of losing the Interview pal that she'd taken for granted. Bennet wasn’t the only one to chat up Tristan, though, as the heinous Weaver had driven Bradshaw straight down to his absurdly low level. If you want to take a guy down a notch, you go for the penis size. Way to go, Bennet. Carrie, certain that she wanted to hit him where it hurt, gave Weaver’s ex’s name along with the quote and agreed to allow it to be published in Page Six.

Out of the blue, Carrie’s work beeper buzzed with a call from Sebastian. From the hospital, The Kydd alerted his former flame that her former best friend, Mags, had collapsed. Hopping on a train home immediately, Carrie rushed to his side, only to inadvertantly discover the truth regarding Sebastian’s faux relationship with Maggie, who’d gotten pregnant by Simon. Before long, Maggie’s parents were tipped off by a nurse on duty, and her furious father ripped into Sebastian with a scathing message regarding how scummy he was for putting his daughter in harms way. Maggie suffered from an ectopic pregnancy. Meaning, the pregnancy was implanted in her fallopian tube and required an immediate risky surgery. Maggie’s life was hanging in the balance, and all her friends could do was sit and wait. In the waiting room, Carrie confronted Sebastian regarding why he’d lied to Maggie’s father. In truth, The Kydd was merely protecting his friend, first and foremost, and any resulting rumors about his crumbling reputation fell to a far second. Sebastian pays no mind to the judgment of others, and suddenly, Carrie was regretting her decision to match Weaver’s wicked ways.

Mouse’s initial panic regarding her lost picture was quashed by West’s point that nobody had recognized her. In fact, none of his teammates even suggested Mouse’s name. We know Mouse, at this point, and the mere concept that nobody even remotely thought she could have “perky” boobs meant that she’d have to prove that she does, absolutely, have “perky” boobs. Later, she marched directly into the diner and whipped open her top with confidence for the entire team’s viewing pleasure. West, oddly enough, was nothing but proud. Mouse, that was the riskiest move any high school girlfriend has ever pulled off. 99.9% of teenage boyfriends would have flipped. Aside: I'm using a lot of italics this recap. There's just so much to stress!

To conclude the recap of Episode 7, Carrie Bradshaw won the trip to Paris but wasn’t there to receive the prize. The entire group, recognizing just how she’d helped them all that evening, pushed Samantha to take it for herself. We’re left to assume Sam and the busboy will have a blast on their European adventure. By the way, isn't it great that The Carrie Diaries writes Samantha, who we know grows into a massive Manhattan PR maven, as this gypsy of a fantastic finagler? Bennet and Walt celebrated Warhol’s decision to give Bennet a promotion to Features Editor and a raise with some affection that ended up caught on camera. At home the next day, Walt’s mother picked up the paper to find a story on the Paris Party complete with a picture of her son snuggling up to another boy. She didn’t say anything this week, but next episode’s preview sure is an indication of what horrible fate awaits Walt.

Mags survived the dangerous procedure but lost one of her fallopian tubes, severely crippling her future odds of having the child she always wanted. For now, she remains in the dark on this. Sebastian and Carrie sat by her side for a bit. That is, until Maggie’s father sternly asked Sebastian to leave his daughter’s side for good. He recognized that Sebastian was the one to see Maggie safely to the hospital, yet forbade him from being a future bad influence on his daughter. Carrie, having a moment of clarity after speaking with Sebastian regarding the importance of honesty, managed to reconnect via phone to Tristan thanks to Larissa. Bradshaw came clean and, in exchange for having the story removed, gave her own name as the suburban bumpkin Weaver had dumped. Outside, Carrie sat with Sebastian on a bench and the two closed out Episode 7 together. Finally, Kyddshaw is on the same page again. Well, they’re almost there. It remains to be seen whether or not Sebastian will need to keep up the guise with Maggie any longer for any reason. Carrie and Sebastian love each other, and they’ve been through a bit of hell apart from each other. Most importantly, Carrie is no longer a virgin, so maybe now that the focus isn’t on making things perfect for her first time, Kyddshaw can thrive going into the latter half of Season 2.

The moral on rumors: Hush, hush! Keep it down now! Voices Carrie… Bradshaw.
