Carly Smithson - Larry King Live
Carly Smithson, Brooke White, David Archuleta and David Cook on Larry King Live (via MJ's Big Blog)
I just realized that Carly Smithson may in fact hate my guts. I can feel it. I don't think she's happy with me. I still hope that "her friends" told her that I ended up supporting her in the end. But she sounded really adamant in this interview when Larry King asked her about her record deal with MCA Records. She said that the "numbers" were wrong -- that the Wall Street Journal gave the wrong figure of $2.2 million. And then David Cook vigorously defended Carly Smithson -- wow. I got the feeling that they were talking about Carly's "bum wrap" backstage a lot. So yes, even if they "didn't read the websites" -- they obviously talked about what we were talking about early in the season.
I don't know, the size of the contract and the amount of money spent by MCA Records are two different things. Also, the issue was not the money, but the fact that American Idol was not forthcoming about someone who was on a MAJOR LABEL joining the show -- not just the Taylor Hicks or David Cook-type indy artist we've seen in the past. She even lied that the company "imploded" that's why "Ultimate High" failed. C'mon, Carly! As you guys said, there's nothing to be ashamed of what you did in the past, so don't be ashamed! You had one of the best stories among everyone here this season behind only Cook and Archuleta, but you still refuse to embrace it.
But honestly, your real road block on American Idol was not your past contract -- it was Simon Cowell. He never gave you any praise on any night that you truly deserved it. Maybe the huge media coverage in the beginning had something to do with it -- but if he only given you credit where credit was due, things may have turned out differently. You may have stopped trying to please him, and instead concentrated more on enjoying yourself on stage. And on the night that you were truly happy, they eliminated you. The bastards.
So it's not the media or the blogs Carly -- Idol screwed you over.
Anyway, my favorite song from this season was 'Here You Come Again" so you know. I hope you sing that as well on the tour.
Go Carly! (I'm a mess -- the love-hate thing has to end... LOL)
