Carey Mulligan is looking to continue her streak of playing well-to-do New Yorkers.

The British actress, most recently seen playing the iconic role of Daisy Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's The Great Gatsby, is reportedly the frontrunner to play Hillary Rodham Clinton in Rodham, Temple Hill and The Arlook Group’s biopic of the former First Lady, New York senator and secretary of state.

The film would portray Hillary Rodham as a young lawyer on the committee involved in President Richard Nixon's impeachment, depicting the complications between her emerging career and her unresolved feelings for future president Bill Clinton.

Mulligan isn't the only name in the running, however, as Scarlett Johansson, Jessica Chastain and Emma Stone are also among the actresses being considered for the coveted role. However, she is the producers' top choice at the moment, as Mulligan is scheduled to have a sit-down with director James Ponsoldt to discuss the role. No official decision has been made, but both sides are said to be eager for the partnership to come to fruition.

Young Il Kim wrote the script, which was on the 2012 Black List of Hollywood's top unproduced screenplays. The script has generated considerable buzz around Hollywood, to the extent that the title role has become one of the most sought-after roles in the business, at the moment. Mulligan is one of the hottest young actresses in Hollywood right now, and she'll next be seen in the Coen Bros.' hotly anticipated Oscar frontrunner Inside Llewyn Davis, co-starring Oscar Isaac, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, John Goodman, Adam Driver and Oscar-winner F. Murray Abraham.
