Can American Idol Season 12 Be Saved? - Poll
American Idol 12 revealed their Top 20 on Thursday after a much-hyped new "Sudden Death" Las Vegas round and a #idolagree #idoldisagree Twitter promo from AT&T. The consensus from Rickey.org readers seems to be that in an attempt to produce a girl winner this year -- the show has produced the worst Top 20 in the history of the franchise.
There is no WGWG (White Guy With Guitar) -- a contestant archetype that has dominated the winner's circle for the past seven seasons. Obviously this is by design to not let a viable white guy through. But did the show just destroy itself in the process? They kept Randy Jackson (another staple) but ditched WGWG, the quintessential American Idol? Somebody at FOX did not do their homework. You do not get rid of the stuff that work. It's like Felicity cutting off her curly locks, Coke introducing New Coke, Gap and Tropicana changing their logo into something unrecognizable, etc. etc. etc.
The show has enough trouble as it is managing the backlash from fans upset at Nicki Minaj -- but they didn't even give these fans a reason to continue watching: the contestants! SMH.
