British actor Robin Sachs, best known as the mage Ethan Rayne on Buffy The Vampire Slayer, has died of undisclosed causes at age 61.

Sachs was a well-known character actor in miniseries such as Brideshead Revisited and Dynasty: The Reunion (replacing Gordon Thomson as Adam Carrington), before transitioning to sci-fi/horror dramas, in such shows as Vampire Circus, Babylon 5, Star Trek: Voyager, and Torchwood: Miracle Day. In addition, he worked extensively in film, with roles in movies such as 1997's The Lost World: Jurassic Park and a memorable, unrecognizable villain turn in 1999's Galaxy Quest. Sachs also contributed voice over performances in video games such as Resident Evil: Damnation and the Mass Effect trilogy.

Sachs passed away on February 1, although the news is only coming to light today, on what would have been his 62nd birthday.
