Bryan Singer Will Direct 'X-Men: Apocalypse'

It's now official: Bryan Singer will return to direct his fourth film in the X-Men franchise, X-Men: Apocalypse.

This puts to rest months of speculation, as rumors suggested that Singer would not be brought back following allegations of sexual abuse that came to light prior to the May release of X-Men: Days of Future Past. Long story short, a 31-year-old man named Michael Egan brought a lawsuit against Singer in which he alleged that the director raped him in 1999 when he was just 17-years-old. However, the 49-year-old Singer vehemently denied the allegations.

"The allegations against me are outrageous, vicious and completely false. I do not want these fictitious claims to divert ANY attention from X-Men: Days of Future Past," Singer said in an interview with E! News back in April. "This fantastic film is a labor of love and one of the greatest experiences of my career. So, out of respect to all of the extraordinary contributions from the incredibly talented actors and crew involved, I've decided not to participate in the upcoming media events for the film. However, I promise when this situation is over, the facts will show this to be the sick twisted shakedown it is."

This accusation was followed by a second accuser coming forward in May. However, Singer eventually filed to have all charges dismissed after submitting evidence that he was not in Hawaii, the state in which the incident supposedly took place, at the time of the alleged assault.

With the debacle mostly behind him, Singer chose to focus on the future, revealing a photo of the script treatment for X-Men: Apocalypse in his first-ever Instagram photo back in June. The photo teased that the opening scene would be set in one of the 11 countries through which the Nile River runs. However, Singer is remaining coy about any further details.

So what do you think about Singer's return? Is he still the right man for the job? Or would you have preferred to see a different director get a shot at the X-Men franchise? Sound off in the comments!
