Bryan Cranston to Go 'All the Way' for HBO
Bryan Cranston is best known for his multi-time Emmy-winning role as Walter White on Breaking Bad. However, just last month, he became a Tony winner as well. He earned the honor for his performance in All the Way, the eventual Tony winner for Best Play. In the show, Cranston stars as Lyndon B. Johnson, the 36th President of the United States, a part that has already become one of his most critically-acclaimed roles. And now, he's bringing that role to television!
Cranston will reprise his role as Johnson for HBO's adaptation of All the Way, with playwright Robert Schenkkan adapting his stage script for television. Steven Spielberg will serve as executive producer on the HBO Films project, since Lincoln apparently didn't extinguish his burning passion for American presidents.
All the Way, which closed on June 29 after 131 performances at the Neil Simon Theatre, broke Broadway box office records by grossing over $1.4 million across eight performances, which is more than any play has ever earned in a single week. Perhaps lightning will strike twice with the adaptation and become a ratings winner for HBO. If nothing else, Cranston's involvement at least assures it'll be well-acted.
