Brothers & Sisters - Gilles Marini - From France With Love - Recap

Brothers & Sisters - Gilles Marini

(Here's the Brothers & Sisters recap from Desi for episode "From France With Love" featuring Gilles Marini!)

After last week's decision to pursue cancer treatment in California, Kitty and Robert try to unwind the night before chemo by playing Scrabble in bed. Robert can't find a place to put down a word so Kitty takes his letters and puts "tumor" down on the game board. He protests, but she shuts him down by saying "do you think that I have forgotten that I have cancer?"

First year medical student Justin has made a decision to pursue oncology, so he checks in with a professor before his class to try to get on her clinical trial team. She tells him that it's full and that they've exhausted the funding, but his persistence and willingness to do anything shows his commitment, and the doctor tells him she'll keep him in mind. He's then late to his class, which irritates his Dr. Howser lab partner.

While Justin is in class, his fiancee goes on a hunt for the perfect place for a wedding with the mothers. Having been dismissed from cancer duty, Nora tags along with Rebecca and Holly. At the first venue, Rebecca wonders if there's a movie filming. When they figure out that it's a porn that's being shot, the planner offers to throw in free valet for the wedding. When Holly finally hangs up the phone (having spent most of the visit on a business call,) they move on to the next location. With Holly still preoccupied with her phone, Nora tells Rebecca that she has to "feel that the venue is right."

Kitty's first "chemo buddy" is sister Sarah, having just returned from a business trip in France. As she settles into the chair for treatment, she has Sarah tell her a story about her trip. And with that, rickey.org darling Gilles Marini makes his appearance as a Frenchman who rescues Sarah when she gets lost in the countryside. Her attempt to speak the language is laughable, and Marini's Luc finally gives in that he speaks English. Kitty's nausea after the drugs leaves her unwilling to eat the feast of comfort food Nora had cooked for her, but Sarah says she'll continue the story if Kitty will start eating. The pair had had picnics in the French countryside as she sipped on wine, he sketched her, and finally kissed.

As Sarah monitors the effects of chemo on Kitty, Kevin has to do the same for Robert's campaign. His polls are dipping lower and lower as Robert attempts to keep campaigning, though his heart isn't in it, and the public sees it as a sign that politics are more important to him than his wife. Kevin feels that the only way to get the polls to go back up is for Kitty to make an announcement, but Robert disagrees, feeling that she should be concentrated on her treatment.

After the search for wedding locations fails and Rebecca has a fight with her mother, Justin comes home and tells Rebecca that his lab partner has requested someone more serious to work with. He's also told that first year students are discouraged from internships because of the workload they have with classes alone.

Kitty's nausea continues into the night as she tries to sleep but is kept awake from the sickness. She calls Sarah to continue the story of her French romance, but it's an unhappy one: she had arrived back to the villa after grocery shopping to find Luc kissing another woman. Kitty interrupts, saying that the story is familiar, and realizes that Sarah is retelling the story of a movie their mother used to love.

Rebecca and Holly make up and go see another possible place for the wedding. Holly says that she was able to get juice for the new value line of wine that Rebecca had proposed, and they talk about how the Walker girls grew up pretending to be brides and looking at wedding albums. Rebecca never had any of that, but she does remember something she did have, and she knows where she's going to get married. She runs home to tell Justin that they're getting married in Hawaii.

Kevin appears to have finally gotten his way as Kitty gives an interview about her illness and how it should or shouldn't affect Robert's campaign. Unhappy about not knowing the interview was taking place, he calls Kevin, who says that the polls are going back up already.

Before the credits roll, we check in with Sarah, who appears to be looking at photos of her European adventure. We see a flashback to the day she found out Luc had been cheating on her, but this time, he isn't kissing anyone. Her phone rings, and she suddenly says that she has to go home as Nora had called to tell her about Kitty. There's a knock on her door and she's distracted from the memory until she opens the door to see Luc's face.

While I can't understand why Luc would be a problem for the Walkers, Nora apparently disagrees with me as the plotline for next week appears to be her distaste for him and the family continues preparations for the wedding. Something must be wrong with her eyes because even if he exhibits behavior worthy of Tool Academy, Marini is certainly pretty enough to put up with it.
