Brooks Wheelan Fired from 'Saturday Night Live' After One Season

Brooks Wheelan will no longer be coming to you live from New York.

Wheelan, one of several new featured players hired for Season 39 of Saturday Night Live, will not be returning for Season 40 of SNL in the fall. The news was broken by Wheelan himself on his official Twitter page:

SNL offered no comment on the news, but it's easy to have seen this decision coming, given how sparsely Wheelan was used over the course of the season, which is often the death knell for any Saturday Night Live featured player. He was the least used newcomer, it seemed, as fellow newbies Beck Bennett, Mike O’Brien, and Kyle Mooney were far more visible, as was Sasheer Zamata, SNL's first black female castmember since Maya Rudolph. So the writing was pretty much on the wall for Wheelan, which isn't to say he's not talented in his own right. I could easily see Wheelan pulling a Casey Wilson, and going on to have a solid career post-Saturday Night Live. Either way, we wish him all the best.
