Britney Spears doesn't lip sync!

At least, that's what the 32-year-old singer told Chicago's 103.5 KISS FM in an interview Friday. Spears denied rumors that she intends to lip sync in her upcoming Vegas show, not only declaring that she plans to sing live, but claiming that she "always" has.

"I'm definitely going to be singing live," Spears said. "I always sing live. It doesn't sound so great all the time, but I do my best."

Spears' response was to an article published by the New York Daily News, which called into question the authenticity of the dancer/singer's live vocals.

“Britney does not sing," a source told the publication. "She is being paid a lot of money to lip-sync. Her fans are none the wiser. ... She hasn’t sung live for a couple of years.”

Spears' manager, Larry Rudolph, recently told Billboard that Spears will sing live for her Vegas shows, but specified that most artists use a vocal backing track during performances. "She does choreography and vocal coaching every day," he added.

And with good reason.

Spears' 90-minute "Piece of Me" Vegas shows, opening on Dec. 27, are expected to be thoroughly exhausting performances. The singer said she's spending three to four weeks rehearsing at home, followed by another three to four weeks rehearsing in Vegas. The excessive preparation is necessary to perfect not only the choreography, but also the "water, snow and rain" effects that will be used during performances. Live vocals or not, I'm curious as hell about this show. Sounds kind of awesome.
